Review: The Guest List
The Guest List by Lucy Foley
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
The Guest List involves the marriage of a delightfully handsome and sociopathic TV reality star and his glamorous magazine publisher fiancée at a venue called The Folly (is it ever) on a rugged island off the coast of Ireland. Will and Jules haven't known each other that long but they look so perfect together. The guests drawn to the event include his lifelong best friend, her longtime pal from work, and inadvertently a whole bunch of people who have grievances. Even the bride's five-time married father has doubts. The bride's actress mother is happy to put on the perfect show wedding, and the bride's younger sister, at the cusp of adulthood, is struggling because of a terribly destructive relationship that recently ended in disaster. It has all the makings of an Agatha Christie-style murder mystery, with gothic touches, and the fleeting ghost of the Cailleach.
This was an enjoyable mystery and the audiobook, narrated by Aoife McMahon, Chloe Massey, Jot Davies, Olivia Dowd, Riche Keeble, and Sarah Ovens was very engaging to listen to. It took me several chapters to get hooked but once I did, it was a compelling listen.
I received the audiobook from Libro.fm and HarperCollins, in exchange for an honest review.
