Review: Emerald Blaze
Emerald Blaze by Ilona Andrews
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
The fifth book in the Hidden Legacy series, Emerald Blaze finds middle sister Catalina Baylor hitting her stride as the head Prime of House Baylor. While most of the magical community around her still knows little about the real extent of her powers, even fewer know of her two great secrets- that she's now a Deputy Warden of the state of Texas, and that she has promised her grandmother that she will never marry and take another House's name. Catalina is in the game for keeps and unfortunately, that means she is investigating some pretty scary stuff these days. Things like the gruesome murder of businessman Felix Morton. On top of his horrifying death, deadly creatures seem to be erupting from the job site on which he died. But let's talk about what's really scary. After taking this case on the orders of Warden Linus Duncan, Catalina finds out that none other than Alessandro Sagredo is also working on this case for Felix's father, Lander. Determined to remain professional after he smashed her heart to pieces just as her entire family compound had almost been destroyed in the events of Sapphire Flames, Catalina buries her feelings and works a case that gets darker by the hour. Because someone has been using the Osiris serum, and not just to boost their power to Prime levels but to create what can only be called sentient monsters. She will need all her powers, and Alessandro's as well, to unravel the truth of Morton's death and the terrifying creatures being created. Only... what does she really know about Alessandro Sagredo?
This was yet another great installment in the series. It's your perfect end of summer read. This series is light, fun, so well written, and I can't even feel a bit guilty enjoying a bit of paranormal romance with these writers. Authors Ilona Andrews can take any trope or formula and crochet an entirely new thing out of it. I just love their books. Perfect diversion, and I just reread it for the enjoyment.
I received a digital review copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
