Review: Chaos Reigning

Chaos Reigning by Jessie Mihalik
My rating: 3.5 of 5 stars

As with the previous novels in the Consortium Rebellion series, Chaos Reigning follows one of the von Hasenberg sisters (here it's the youngest, Catarina) in her adventures to secure safety for her family and the return of her missing brother Ferdinand. Catarina is perceived socially as the lightweight among the von Hasenberg siblings, a reputation she has tried to assiduously cultivate in order to cover her tracks and abilities. Here she travels around in her ship, the Chaos with friends of her sister Bianca's that we met in Aurora Blazing, Aoife and the delightfully handsome Alex, who are providing her security, at Bianca's request. Catarina is all protestation until Alex saves her from an attempt on her life. From that point on, I'm sure you know where things are headed. Though, maybe not exactly. Because things just might take a shocking turn for High House von Hasenberg.

Although the books in the trilogy have been quite formulaic in terms of the von Hasenberg sisters' romances with edgy alpha men, the action in this book, the conclusion of the trilogy, at least brought strong changes to the status quo of High House von Hasenberg. Romance readers who enjoy light sci-fi will likely find this a satisfying read. Readers of Ilona Andrews books will also find traces of similar style, albeit with a bit less humor.

I received a Digital Review Copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.
