Review: Deal with the Devil

Deal with the Devil by Kit Rocha
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

First in a new series, Deal with the Devil introduces the reader to Nina, Maya, and Dani, who are "information brokers" aka the titular Mercenary Librarians. These women, in addition to being information brokers are highly trained fighters, this so that when they obtain information for a source, they can guarantee delivery in spite of... obstacles. Or distractions. Like Protectorate soldiers. Enter former protectorate soldier Garrett Knox, one of the Silver Devils, an elite squad that parted ways with the ironically named Protectorate over an issue with collateral damage. Knox and his crew want information about how to stabilize their Protectorate-designed implants that grant them veritable superpowers but also certain death if they are not maintained. But their hacker who could get this information has been kidnapped and the ransom is... Nina. What would lure a savvy librarian like Nina into a trap? None other than the long lost Library of Congress server. It's quite the lure, but willKnox stick to his guns? Are the Librarians on to the ruse from the start? Will they be trapped or are they going to remove the Devils from the equation?

This is not my typical genre but I really wanted to review and buy the book to support the authors, one of whom has been battling a health problem. This is a diverting read for sci-fi lite/dystopian readers who like a heavy dollop of sexy romance. The novel is similar in feel to those of Jessie Mihalik, for those who want a point of reference, rather than Ilona Andrews, to whom they have been compared. If you've enjoyed Jessie's books, you should definitely give Kit Rocha a shot!

I received a digital review copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
